I have been working with children, teenagers and lately, young adults on the spectrum for approximately 16 years. I began by focusing on social skills and emotional self-regulation but found the traditional ways of teaching these skills was not very effective. Over the past three years I have focused on learning and using Relationship Development Intervention®. In RDI®, I operate as a consultant with the parents and coach them about how to be better guides for their autistic child. It is a developmental therapy so I am basically helping them to re-do the typical developmental pathway with their child and fill in the gaps of learning. They are already good parents, they just need to learn how to use those intuitive strategies with their autistic child. Because I am an OT, I am also able to include sensory processing issue within this process. RDI® is a very intense process and requires committed parents that are willing to change aspects of their lifestyle. More information can be found at www.rdiconnect.com

Occupational Therapists

Megan Land McCarthy, OT Reg. (MB)
mlandmccarthy@gmail.com

I have been working with individuals with Autism for the last 9 years. As this has become an area of interest in my practice i have spent the last couple of years focusing on furthering my education in this area.
I have completed a number of different certificate programs that have enhanced my ability to work as a competent occupational therapist with this special population.
I have my level 1 in the DIR/FLOORTIME model, a certificate from the Geneva Center for Autism (Occupational Therapist Certificate Training course) as well as level 1 and 2 of Attachment training.
I am currently enrolled in a graduate certificate course in Behavioural Intervention in Autism to complement my sensory and O.T. skills.
In addition, i have ran numerous social skills groups and provided one-on-one intervention and worked as a liaison to schools.
Please contact me if you have any further questions.
